In John 20, we read about the actual resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave.
Please read that on your own time, to appreciate and give gratitude for the Lord’s victory over sin and death.
Our Lord's resurrection was the proof that He was the Messiah, The Christ, God who had become a man.
1Co 15 says that Christ rose from the dead for OUR assurance, and if He didn't rise from the dead our worship would be in vain (useless).
1 Cor 15:13-14 “But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain.
1 Cor 15:17 “and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.
But the good news of Christ rising from the dead is more than just a statement of fact. It involves a power that has been passed on to us.
If we are believers in Christ, the Bible teaches we are also raised from the dead, and we have already been given a special power from His resurrection! Rom 6, Phil 3:10-11
Phil 3:10-11 “that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death; in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.
Paul is praying that he may really get to know the Lord, and part of that is the "power of His resurrection".
What does the Bible say about the power of His resurrection?
1. All 3 members of the Trinity were involved in raising our Lord from the dead!
The Omnipotence of God the Father restored our Lord's human spirit in heaven to His body in the grave. Act 2:24, Rom 6:4, Eph 1:20, Col 2:12, 1Th 1:10, 1Pe 1:21
The Omnipotence of God the Holy Spirit restored our Lord's human soul from Hades to His body in the grave. Rom 1:4, 8:11, 1Pe 3:18
The Omnipotence of God the Son raised His own body out from the grave! Joh 20:17
And all that time, the deity of Jesus Christ kept holding everything in the universe in place! Joh 1:3, Col 1:16-17, Heb 1:3
Heb 1:3 “And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
John 1:3 “All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.
The Bible also teaches that the power of the Trinity which resurrected our Lord from the dead is also available to us to resurrect our life from the dead, not only when we die but while we are alive on earth!
This power is available to our spiritual life, so that while we are alive we can LIVE life with the power of resurrection life given to us.
And with Omnipotence, if God can raise us from the dead, He can certainly take care of our problems in life, don't you think?
If He has taken care of the greater problem, our eternal death, can't He take care of the smaller problems like the details of this life? So Relax and trust Him! He has raised us from the dead!
God's perfect plan runs on God's perfect power, even for imperfect persons, by grace. Deu 32:4, Zec 3:9, Mat 16:18, Eph 2:20-22
Deut 32:4 "The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He.
The Rock of salvation is Jesus Christ! 1Co 3:11, Exo 17:1-7
1 Cor 3:11 “For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
So God is perfect, and His plan is perfect, so how are we supposed to operate our spiritual life in this perfect plan?
Well, we need to borrow some perfect power from God! He knows we can't do it in our own power!
And Jesus tells us in Mat 5:48 to be perfect like our heavenly Father is perfect!
But we have old sin natures! We are sinners saved by the grace of God. How can we live up to God's perfect standards?
Well, first of all, we were given a new nature at the moment of faith in Christ. Our new nature is the eternal life of God given to us, and it is perfect and cannot sin.
So then, how do we live in this new nature?
The Bible says we've been given divine power to use.
We have 2 divine power options, which Jesus Christ used in His humanity!
Jesus didn't use His deity on earth. Instead, He used two divine power sources made available to His humanity. Phil 2
1. The Power of the Holy Spirit leading you.
2. The Power of the Word of God in your soul.
The Word of God is alive and powerful, Heb 4:12, and creates its own power source in the soul of the positive believer, so they can apply the Word of God to experiences in life.
A lot of people don't realize the power of the Word of God alive in their souls.
Under problems and pressure situations in life, you can step back and say "this is what the Bible says and I believe it, so I'm going to use it".
You may not feel good, your emotions may be going crazy, but you know what the Word of God says so you apply it to your life. And that is part of living in the resurrection life the Lord has provided.
You have just used God's power, the power of His Word.
The Word of God is the highest form of genius in the universe. It is perfect and pure, and it’s God’s way of giving us the solutions to every problem in life.
1 Cor 2:16 “For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE WILL INSTRUCT HIM? But we have the mind of Christ.
The Word of God answers every problem and situation if life. How do we know this? This is what Jesus used to solve His problems while He was alive on earth!
The Lord Jesus Christ demonstrated this power to us. He is our example!
Matt 4:1 “Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry. And the tempter came and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread." But He answered and said, "It is written, "MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.'"
5 Then the devil took Him into the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, 'HE WILL COMMAND HIS ANGELS CONCERNING YOU'; and 'ON their HANDS THEY WILL BEAR YOU UP, SO THAT YOU WILL NOT STRIKE YOUR FOOT AGAINST A STONE.'" 7 Jesus said to him, "On the other hand, it is written, "YOU SHALL NOT PUT THE LORD YOUR GOD TO THE TEST.'"
8 Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory; 9 and he said to Him, "All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me." 10 Then Jesus said to him, "Go, Satan! For it is written, "YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND SERVE HIM ONLY.'" 11 Then the devil left Him; and behold, angels came and began to minister to Him.
Jesus defeated Satan, not with His deity, but in His humanity. He used the perfect Truth of the Word of God to cause Satan to flee from Him.
And Jesus was always filled with the Spirit because He never sinned, so He always used the power of the Spirit. (we must turn away from sin and submit to the power of the Spirit to enjoy His control and guidance each day)
Back to our subject,..
there is a certain divine power available to us, and it has to do with the Resurrection of our Lord from the dead.
Eph 1:18-20 “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might 20 which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,
2Co 4:7 says the power in us should be from God and not from ourselves!
2 Cor 4:7 “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves;
Several verses also tell us that this divine power can do great things for us, now in this life!
2 Cor 10:3-6 “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, 4 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. 5 We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, 6 and we are ready to punish all disobedience, whenever your obedience is complete.
2 Cor 12:9-10 “And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 10 Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Cor 13:4 “For indeed He was crucified because of weakness, yet He lives because of the power of God. For we also are weak in Him, yet we will live with Him because of the power of God directed toward you.
Back to Phil 3:10, "that I may come to know Him, and the power of His resurrection"
WE first begin to know this mighty power of His Resurrection and Ascension into heaven when we see our scriptural position in Christ.
The Bible teaches you have a certain position with Christ, already seated with Christ in the heavenly places.
Our "position" with Christ is seen in the phrase "in Christ". As believers we are "in Christ".
Do you understand the power it took to make us equal to Christ? We are in union with the God-man, the Creator of the heavens and the earth.
When you think of how rotten we are compared to God, that must have took a lot of power!
WE ARE: 1Jo 5:11-12 - Eternal Life, 2Co 5:21 - Perfect Righteousness, 2Ti 2:1 - His children, 1Co 1:2 – Sanctified, Heb 10:10-14 –Priests, 1Pe 1:11 -Royalty
Don't you think He can handle your problems?
The foundation of all Resurrection life is death. Rom 6:5-13, Eph 2:5-6
Rom 6:5-13 “For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; 7 for he who has died is freed from sin. 8 Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.
11 Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, 13 and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
Eph 2:4-6 “But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
We are to live in this new life called resurrection life.
Through our faith in this fact, that we have a position in Christ, the Holy Spirit makes this truth real in our CONDITION resulting in our spiritual growth. Rom 6:13
We are, now that we are new creatures with a resurrection life, to present the members of our body to God!
2 Cor 5:7
7 for we walk by faith, not by sight --
ears- we are told to take care how we listen and what we listen to.
10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might;
15 and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE;
Blessed be the LORD, my rock,
Who trains my hands for war,
And my fingers for battle;
29 Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.
14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father,
And do you care about your life? Or do you care that your life is used for the cause of God?
13 "Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.
1 John 3:16
16 We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
We are also told to be on guard for deceit and trickery, which can hinder us from taking advantage of the spiritual life offered to us by God!
17 Now I urge you, brethren, keep your eye on those who cause dissensions and hindrances contrary to the teaching which you learned, and turn away from them.
18 For such men are slaves, not of our Lord Christ but of their own appetites; and by their smooth and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting.
But to the one who is not teaching falsely, let him live his own spiritual life before God.
50 But Jesus said to him, "Do not hinder him; for he who is not against you is for you."
Present yourselves to God. Be willing to do HIS will, not your own.
And MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS. Let God worry about His family, if you're smart.
Take advantage of the 2 Power Options: the Filling of the Spirit and the Word of God in the soul.
God have made available to you His own power.
Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. (you're doing that right now!)
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
You can live the Resurrection life NOW in time.
That depends on if you truly believe what Christ has accomplished for you; that you have a reserved position with Christ, and you have divine power at your fingertips to use in this life.
